Eastern Himalaya

Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, lies atan altitude 1600meters. It occupies the West side of a long ridge flanking the Ranipool River. Gangtok has a very spectacularsetting and offers excellent views of the entire Kanchenjunga range from various points in it's vicinity. Being in the lap of Himalayas, Gangtok never experiences the hot weather as in the plains. Gangtok was a small hamlet until the construction of the Enchey Monastery in 1840 made it a pilgrimage center.

Kalimpong, is a hill station nestled in the Shiwalik Hills in the Indian state of WestBengal. It is located at an average elevation of 1,247 m (4,100 feet). The town is the headquarters of the Kalimpong subdivision, a part of the district of Darjeeling. A major forward base of the Indian Army is located on the outskirts of the town. In recent times, Kalimpong has become an important tourist destination Kalimpong is also famous for its flower market, especially the wide array of orchids.

Pelling, Situated at an altitude of 6,800 ft, it offers good view of entire mountain ranges including the Koktang, Kumbhakarna, Rathong, Kabru, Dom, Kanchenjunga, Pandim, Zopuno, Shimbho, Narsing, Siniyalchu and others. Pelling is as close as you can get to Kanchenjunga without leaving the material comfort of good hotels and due to its advantageous location; many hotels and lodges have come up in and around Pelling offering various categories of accommodation. Lachung, is a town in northeast Sikkim, India. It is located at in North Sikkim district and is near the border with China. Lachung is at an elevation of about 9,600 ft or 3,000 m and at the confluence of the Lachen River and Lachung Rivers, tributaries of the River Teesta. The word Lachung means "small pass". The town is approximately 125 km from the capital Gangtok. Lachung was a trading post between Sikkim and Tibet. The town's economy has been boosted by tourism in recent years as the region has been opened up by the Indian government.
